Chemclear Secure Qualitative Face Fit Qualification

Chemclear are qualitative face fit – and that’s official!

Managing Director Chris Jones has passed the ‘Face Fit Train The Tester’ course using the Qualitative Method.

He attended and passed the course which means he can provide respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to members of the Chemclear team.

The course is a crucial part of Health and Safety guidelines and provides documentary evidence that Chemclear are qualified to wear RPE correctly.

Chris Jones, said: “It is part of employers responsibility to provide a safe place of work and that includes providing the equipment necessary to stay safe.

Legal Requirement

“The hierarchy of control starts with elimination of the hazard, reducing, engineering control, safe systems of work and ends with PPE including RPE.

“It is actually a legal requirement that workers using tight fitting respiratory protective equipment, so face pieces or masks, must be fit by a competent person.

“Chemclear can now do that, we can provide ‘qualitative face fit testing’, to ensure the safety of employees.”

Chris attended the training course, delivered by Mike Manning Consultancy and training, at the Ice Dental Hospital in Salford Quays.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic there is a UK shortage of testers and now Chemclear will be able to assist their own clients.

There are many unsuitable makes currently available or carrying misleading markings and now Chemclear can keep their clients safe.

Health and Safety

Employers and the need to test regularly due to various reasons including loss of weight, change of mask manufacturer, dental procedures can result in a change of face shape.

The Health and Safety Executive, state: “In preparing the Fit2Fit RPE fit testers accreditation scheme, BSIP and other industry stakeholders have worked closely with the experts in Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

“Following this scheme is not compulsory and employers are free to take other action to comply with the law. But if you follow this scheme, you will be doing enough to demonstrate good practice.”

It is not as simple as providing a mask for protection, you need to ensure its the right mask for the individual and for the conditions encountered.
